Description
Overview of the medicine
Xpa-C is a combination medicine containing a mild analgesic/antipyretic (Xpa) and Vitamin C. It is used for symptomatic relief of mild to moderate pain, fever, and to boost immunity during common cold and flu.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed, not exceeding 8 tablets in 24 hours.
Elderly
Same as adult dose, but caution advised for renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
Consult a doctor; dose adjustment may be necessary for severe impairment.
How to Take
Take orally with water, with or without food. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Mechanism of Action
Xpa acts centrally and peripherally to reduce pain and fever by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is an essential nutrient and antioxidant involved in immune function, collagen formation, and tissue repair.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain/fever relief typically within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Both Xpa and Vitamin C metabolites are primarily excreted via the kidneys.
Half life
Xpa: 2-4 hours; Vitamin C: 2-3 hours (dose-dependent).
Absorption
Xpa is rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Vitamin C is well-absorbed orally, saturating at higher doses.
Metabolism
Xpa is primarily metabolized in the liver. Vitamin C is partially metabolized to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Xpa or Ascorbic Acid
- Severe hepatic or renal impairment
Drug Interactions
Antacids
May reduce absorption of Xpa.
Warfarin
May enhance anticoagulant effects of warfarin (due to Xpa component).
Other Xpa-containing products
Increased risk of overdose. Avoid concomitant use.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and liver damage (with Xpa). Seek immediate medical attention. Management involves supportive care and specific antidotes if available.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy or lactation. Xpa is generally considered safe in recommended doses, but high doses of Vitamin C should be avoided.
