Overview of the medicine
Zico 10 mg Syrup contains Desloratadine, a non-drowsy antihistamine used for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg (equivalent to 10 ml of Zico 10 mg Syrup) once daily, with or without food.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
For patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min), a reduced dose of 10 mg every other day may be considered, or as directed by a physician.
How to Take
Zico 10 mg Syrup is for oral administration. It can be taken with or without food. Use the provided measuring cup or spoon for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a selective, peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and blocks histamine's effects on H1 receptors, thereby reducing allergic symptoms.

Within 1-3 hours.
Excretion
Excreted almost equally in urine and feces as metabolic products.
Half life
Approximately 27 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentration reached in approximately 3 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized to an active metabolite, 3-hydroxydesloratadine, via hydroxylation. Metabolized by CYP3A4.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to desloratadine, loratadine, or any component of the formulation.
- •History of allergic reaction to desloratadine or loratadine.
Drug Interactions
Cimetidine
Co-administration with cimetidine may increase desloratadine plasma levels, but no clinically significant changes were observed.
Erythromycin
Co-administration with erythromycin may increase desloratadine plasma levels, but no clinically significant changes were observed.
Ketoconazole
Co-administration with ketoconazole may increase desloratadine plasma levels, but no clinically significant changes were observed.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended. Desloratadine is not removed by hemodialysis. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered shortly after ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended for use during lactation, as desloratadine is excreted in breast milk.
