Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Dosage typically adapted for children for this strength. For adults, usually 500 mg once daily for 3 days or 500 mg on day 1 followed by 250 mg on days 2-5 (may require multiple doses of 200mg/5mL suspension to reach adult dose).

Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance >40 mL/min).
How to Take
Zixin suspension should be taken orally. It can be taken with or without food. Shake the bottle well before each use. Use the provided measuring device to ensure accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin works by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and interfering with bacterial growth and multiplication.
Pharmacokinetics

Clinical effects usually observed within hours to days, depending on the infection.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the bile; a small portion is excreted renally.
Half life
The plasma elimination half-life is long, approximately 2-4 days.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration; bioavailability is approximately 37%.
Metabolism
Limited hepatic metabolism; primarily by N-demethylation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, any macrolide or ketolide antibiotic, or any component of the formulation.
- •History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with prior azithromycin use.
Drug Interactions
Digoxin
May increase serum digoxin levels; monitor digoxin levels.
Antacids
Concurrent use with antacids may decrease peak serum concentrations of azithromycin. Take azithromycin at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after antacids.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect when co-administered; monitor INR closely.
Nelfinavir
Increased azithromycin concentrations; co-administration is not recommended.
QT-prolonging drugs
Increased risk of QT interval prolongation and cardiac arrhythmias (e.g., antiarrhythmics, antipsychotics).
Storage
Store the powder for suspension below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution, store the suspension in a refrigerator (2-8°C) or at room temperature (as per specific product instructions) and discard after the specified shelf life.
Overdose
In case of overdose, gastric lavage and general supportive measures are indicated. Hemodialysis is not effective in removing azithromycin.
