Description
Overview of the medicine
Zixin 500 mg tablet contains Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For most infections: 500 mg as a single dose on Day 1, followed by 250 mg once daily on Days 2-5, or 500 mg once daily for 3 days. For Chlamydia: 1 gm as a single oral dose.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients, but caution is advised in those with severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary for mild to moderate renal impairment. Data for severe renal impairment (GFR < 10 mL/min) is limited; caution is advised.
How to Take
Zixin tablets can be taken with or without food. To ensure complete absorption, it is generally recommended to take it on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal).
Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and interfering with the assembly of the 50S ribosomal subunit. This leads to the prevention of bacterial growth.

Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; bioavailability is approximately 37%. Peak plasma concentrations occur within 2-3 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver, but a significant portion of the dose is excreted unchanged.
