Description
Overview of the medicine
Adorex 10 mg Tablet is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 10 mg once daily, may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg once daily after at least one week. The therapeutic dose is usually 10 mg.

How to Take
Take orally once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Escitalopram works by increasing the level of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance, thereby improving mood and reducing anxiety.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Therapeutic effects typically begin within 1-2 weeks, but full antidepressant effects may take 2-4 weeks or longer.
Excretion
Excreted through both renal (urine) and fecal routes.
Half life
Approximately 27-32 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.
Absorption
Well absorbed after oral administration, with peak plasma concentrations occurring after approximately 4 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP2C19, CYP3A4, and CYP2D6 to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to escitalopram or any excipients.
- Concomitant use with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI.
- Concomitant use with pimozide.
- Congenital long QT syndrome or acquired long QT interval.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Risk of serotonin syndrome (hyperthermia, rigidity, myoclonus, autonomic instability, mental status changes).
Pimozide
Increased risk of QT prolongation.
Anticoagulants/NSAIDs
Increased risk of bleeding.
Other serotonergic drugs (e.g., triptans, tramadol, tryptophan, St. John's Wort)
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose

Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Exposure in late pregnancy may increase the risk of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN). Lactation: Escitalopram is excreted in human breast milk; therefore, caution is advised when administered to a nursing woman.
