Aripiprazole is an atypical antipsychotic medication used to treat various mental health conditions, including schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, and as an add-on treatment for major depressive disorder.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Schizophrenia: Initially 10-15 mg/day, target 10-30 mg/day. Bipolar I Disorder (Manic/Mixed): Initially 15 mg/day (monotherapy) or 10-15 mg/day (adjunctive), target 15-30 mg/day. Major Depressive Disorder (Adjunctive): Initially 2-5 mg/day, target 5-15 mg/day.
Elderly
Start with a lower dose and titrate slowly, monitoring for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Administer orally once daily, with or without food. Use the provided calibrated dosing device for accurate measurement of the oral solution.
Mechanism of Action
Aripiprazole acts as a partial agonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, and as an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, modulating neurotransmitter activity in the brain to achieve its therapeutic effects.

Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Neonates exposed to antipsychotic drugs during the third trimester are at risk for extrapyramidal and/or withdrawal symptoms. Aripiprazole is excreted in human milk; breastfeeding is generally not recommended.
