Description
Overview of the medicine
Bilastine 10 mg tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (e.g., sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, nasal congestion) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dose adjustment is required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment is required in patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Oral administration. Take the tablet one hour before or two hours after food or fruit juice.
Mechanism of Action
Bilastine is a non-sedating, long-acting H1-receptor antagonist. It selectively binds to peripheral H1 receptors, thereby inhibiting the effects of histamine and reducing allergic symptoms.

About 1 hour.
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged in urine and feces.
Half life
Approximately 14.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours.

Minimally metabolized; primarily excreted unchanged.

Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Diltiazem
Increased plasma levels of Bilastine.
Erythromycin
Increased plasma levels of Bilastine.
Ketoconazole
Increased plasma levels of Bilastine.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture.
Overdose
No specific antidote. Symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
