Description
Overview of the medicine
Asibalin 25 mg Capsule contains Pregabalin, which is used to treat neuropathic pain, epilepsy, and generalized anxiety disorder. It works by reducing the abnormal electrical activity in the brain and by modifying the release of certain neurotransmitters.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typical starting dose is 75 mg twice daily or 50 mg three times daily, adjusted up to a maximum of 300 mg twice daily or 600 mg daily, depending on response and tolerability.
Elderly
Dosage may need to be reduced due to potential age-related decrease in renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is necessary based on creatinine clearance; lower doses are recommended for patients with impaired renal function.
How to Take
Asibalin capsules should be taken orally, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule.
Mechanism of Action
Pregabalin binds with high affinity to the alpha2-delta (α2-δ) subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. This binding reduces the release of several neurotransmitters, including glutamate, norepinephrine, and substance P, which are involved in pain signaling and seizure activity.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1 week for neuropathic pain; varies by indication.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine (approximately 98%).
Half life
Approximately 6.3 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed following oral administration; peak plasma concentrations reached within 1.5 hours.
Metabolism
Negligible hepatic metabolism; less than 0.1% metabolized to N-methylated derivative.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to pregabalin or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
CNS Depressants (e.g., opioids, benzodiazepines, alcohol)
May potentiate the sedative and respiratory depressant effects.
Thiazolidinedione antidiabetic agents (e.g., rosiglitazone, pioglitazone)
May cause weight gain and peripheral edema when co-administered.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include somnolence, confusion, agitation, and restlessness. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic; hemodialysis may be beneficial in severe cases.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it is excreted in human milk.
