Description
Overview of the medicine
Asitrol (Pantoprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid production. It treats conditions like GERD, peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
GERD: 40 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks. Ulcers: 40 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally needed, but monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment required.
How to Take
Take whole tablet before a meal, preferably in the morning. Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Pantoprazole selectively inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (proton pump) at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell, thereby blocking the final step of acid production.

Mainly renal (approx. 80%) and biliary/fecal (approx. 20%).

Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Bioavailability is about 77%.

Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms are generally mild and include lethargy, tremor, tachycardia. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use only if clearly needed after consulting a doctor. Small amounts may pass into breast milk; caution advised.
