Description
Overview of the medicine
Bpclox is a broad-spectrum antibiotic containing Ampicillin and Cloxacillin. It is used to treat various bacterial infections, especially those caused by both penicillin-sensitive and penicillinase-producing bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250-500 mg (Ampicillin + Cloxacillin) every 6 hours, or as directed by physician.
Elderly
Dosage may need adjustment based on renal function.
Renal_impairment
Reduced dosage is necessary in patients with severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min).
How to Take
Oral administration. Take with a full glass of water. For best absorption, take on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals). If gastric upset occurs, may be taken with food.
Mechanism of Action
Ampicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. Cloxacillin is a beta-lactamase resistant penicillin, protecting Ampicillin from degradation by penicillinase enzymes produced by some bacteria.

Onset
Clinical effects typically observed within hours to days, depending on the infection.
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged via kidneys (urine), some biliary excretion.
Half life
Ampicillin: approx. 1-1.5 hours. Cloxacillin: approx. 0.5-1 hour.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, though food may reduce absorption. Peak plasma levels usually reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Partially metabolized in the liver, primarily excreted unchanged.

May enhance anticoagulant effect.
