Capazi 25 mg Tablet is an antidepressant medicine primarily used to treat major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. It helps improve mood and feelings of well-being.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial: 25 mg once daily, may be increased gradually to 50 mg or 75 mg once daily based on response and tolerability. Max: 100 mg/day.
Elderly
Initial: 12.5 mg once daily, slower titration recommended. Max: 50 mg/day.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Capazilopram selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) into presynaptic neurons, thereby increasing the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft. This leads to enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission and improvement in mood and anxiety symptoms.

Onset
Antidepressant effects may take 2-4 weeks, anxiolytic effects may appear earlier.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in urine and feces as metabolites.

Approximately 24-36 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, peak plasma concentration usually within 4-8 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP2C19, CYP3A4, and CYP2D6.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Capazilopram or any excipients
- •Concomitant use with MAOIs (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI
- •Concomitant use with Pimozide
- •Uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome, may be fatal.
NSAIDs
Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Pimozide
Increased QT interval and arrhythmias.
Triptans
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
Warfarin
Increased risk of bleeding due to enhanced anticoagulant effect.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include somnolence, coma, seizures, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting. Management is supportive and symptomatic; ensure airway, breathing, circulation. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered if recent ingestion. No specific antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit outweighs potential risk to the fetus. It is excreted in breast milk; advise caution during lactation.
