Ceficap-200 mg Capsule contains Cefixime, which is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
200-400 mg once daily or 200 mg twice daily, depending on the severity of infection. For uncomplicated gonorrhea, a single dose of 400 mg.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment needed based on age alone, but renal function should be assessed.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is recommended for patients with creatinine clearance less than 60 mL/min.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.

Peak plasma levels reached within 2-6 hours.

Approximately 50% of the absorbed dose is excreted unchanged in the urine over 24 hours.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to cefixime or other cephalosporins.

Drug Interactions
Nifedipine
May increase cefixime peak plasma levels and AUC.
Carbamazepine
Concomitant administration may increase carbamazepine plasma concentrations.
Warfarin and other anticoagulants
May increase prothrombin time (PT) with or without clinical bleeding. Monitor PT/INR carefully.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, gastric lavage may be indicated. Cefixime is not removed in significant quantities by dialysis. Symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended.

Pregnancy Category B. Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
