Description
Overview of the medicine
Cenolon-01 Oral Paste contains Triamcinolone Acetonide, a corticosteroid, used to provide symptomatic relief and aid healing of inflammatory lesions in the mouth such as aphthous ulcers, stomatitis, and denture irritation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a small amount (about 0.5 cm) to the lesion at bedtime, or two to three times daily after meals, as needed. Press gently but do not rub. Continue for a few days after symptoms subside.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, use as adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
Apply a small dab of the paste to the affected area, pressing it gently against the lesion until a thin film develops. Do not rub in. For best results, apply after meals and at bedtime to allow maximum contact with the lesion.
Mechanism of Action
Triamcinolone Acetonide acts as a glucocorticoid, suppressing inflammatory responses by inhibiting the release of lysosomal enzymes, antagonizing the action of kinins and leukotrienes, and reducing prostaglandin synthesis. It also modulates immune responses.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptomatic relief within hours to a day.
Excretion
Mainly renal excretion of metabolites, some biliary.
Half life
Systemic half-life is approximately 1.5 to 3 hours, but local effects persist longer.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption occurs from intact oral mucosa, but absorption is increased from denuded or inflamed areas. Systemic absorption is generally low with proper use.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic metabolism to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Patients with hypersensitivity to triamcinolone acetonide or any components of the paste
- •Fungal, viral (e.g., herpes simplex), or bacterial infections of the mouth or throat
- •Tuberculosis of the mouth
- •Untreated oral candidiasis
Drug Interactions
Immunosuppressants
Possible additive immunosuppressive effects, though unlikely with topical use.
Systemic Corticosteroids
Increased risk of systemic corticosteroid effects with prolonged or extensive use.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Systemic overdose is unlikely with proper topical oral application due to minimal absorption. Chronic excessive use may lead to systemic corticosteroid effects. Management is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use with caution in pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Consult a doctor.
