Description
Overview of the medicine
Cinamycin 300 mg Capsule is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
300 mg once daily for 3-7 days, depending on the infection. For specific infections, dosage may vary.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required, but monitor for adverse effects due to potential age-related decline in renal/hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
Mild to moderate impairment: No dosage adjustment. Severe impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min): Exercise caution, consider dose reduction.
How to Take
Take the capsule orally with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not chew or crush the capsule. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor.
Mechanism of Action
Cinamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thereby preventing translocation of peptide chains. This action typically results in a bacteriostatic effect.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 2-4 hours of administration.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in the bile and feces, with a small amount excreted unchanged in urine.
Half life
Approximately 10-15 hours, allowing for once or twice daily dosing.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, bioavailability of approximately 60-70%. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 2-3 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via CYP3A4 enzymes to inactive metabolites.
