Description
Overview of the medicine
Deflux 10 mg Tablet is a medication used to prevent and treat chronic asthma and to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It works by blocking substances in the body called leukotrienes, which cause inflammation and narrowing of the airways.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For asthma and allergic rhinitis: 10 mg once daily, in the evening.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Take Deflux 10 mg Tablet once daily in the evening, with or without food. It should be taken regularly to be effective, even when you feel well. Do not use for acute asthma attacks.
Mechanism of Action
Deflux (hypothetical generic) is a selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist that specifically binds to the CysLT1 receptor. This binding prevents the action of leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4, LFE4) which are inflammatory mediators released from various cells (e.g., mast cells, eosinophils) and contribute to bronchoconstriction, mucus secretion, vascular permeability, and eosinophil recruitment in allergic diseases.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 24 hours for asthma and allergic rhinitis symptom improvement.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in feces via bile (approximately 86%), with minimal renal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 2.7 to 5.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration; peak plasma concentrations achieved in 2-4 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYP3A4, CYP2C9, CYP2A6).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
- Acute asthma attacks (not indicated for rescue therapy).
Drug Interactions
Rifampicin
May decrease the plasma concentration of Deflux through induction of hepatic metabolizing enzymes. Monitor clinical response.
Phenobarbital
May decrease the plasma concentration of Deflux due to induction of hepatic metabolizing enzymes.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In cases of overdose, the most commonly reported adverse events were abdominal pain, somnolence, thirst, headache, vomiting, and psychomotor hyperactivity. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. It is not known if Deflux is dialyzable.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have not shown a risk to the fetus, but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is unknown whether Deflux is excreted in human milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
