Description
Overview of the medicine
Delfex 120 mg Tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, and hives. It works by blocking a natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria: 120 mg or 180 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally required, but caution with renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
For patients with impaired renal function (creatinine clearance < 80 mL/min), a starting dose of 60 mg once daily is recommended.
How to Take
Take the tablet orally with water, with or without food. Do not take with fruit juice as it may reduce absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-blocker. It inhibits histamine release from mast cells and reduces the effects of histamine on H1-receptors, thereby alleviating allergic symptoms without causing significant sedation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Approximately 1 hour for significant symptom relief.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in feces (approximately 80%) and urine (approximately 11%) as unchanged drug.
Half life
11-15 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentrations reached in 1-3 hours.
Metabolism
Approximately 5% of the dose is metabolized, primarily by the hepatic route.
