Overview of the medicine
Fexofenadine is a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and hives.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
180 mg once daily for seasonal allergic rhinitis or chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Elderly
No specific adjustment usually required, but use with caution.
Renal_impairment
Initial dose 60 mg once daily for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally with water, preferably before a meal. Do not take with fruit juice.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist, which means it blocks the action of histamine at H1 receptors, thereby reducing allergic symptoms without significant sedative effects.

Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any excipients.
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin or Ketoconazole
May increase plasma levels of fexofenadine.
Antacids (aluminum and magnesium-containing)
Can reduce the absorption of fexofenadine. Separate administration by at least 2 hours.
Storage
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. Hemodialysis does not effectively remove fexofenadine.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it is excreted in breast milk.
