Description
Overview of the medicine
Dinafex 120 mg Tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, and hives. It belongs to a class of medications called H1 antagonists.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
120 mg or 180 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment generally required for elderly patients with normal renal function.
Renal_impairment
60 mg once daily for patients with impaired renal function (creatinine clearance < 80 mL/min).
How to Take
Take orally with water. Can be taken with or without food. Avoid taking with fruit juice.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine, a peripheral H1-receptor antagonist, selectively blocks histamine H1 receptors. It does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier, resulting in a low incidence of sedation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1 hour
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in feces (80%) and urine (11%).
Half life
Approximately 14 hours
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached in 1-3 hours.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized (less than 5%) in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin or Ketoconazole
May increase fexofenadine plasma concentrations (due to inhibition of P-glycoprotein), though not consistently associated with increased adverse effects.
Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium
May decrease absorption of fexofenadine. Separate administration by approximately 2 hours.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, dizziness, and dry mouth. Management is symptomatic and supportive; consider activated charcoal if recent ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Caution is advised during breastfeeding as fexofenadine is excreted in breast milk.
