Description
Overview of the medicine
Dinafex 180 mg Tablet contains Fexofenadine Hydrochloride, a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). It helps alleviate sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes/nose/throat, and skin itching/rashes.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis: 180 mg once daily. Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria: 180 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is usually required in elderly patients with normal renal function.
Renal_impairment
For patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 10 mL/min) or undergoing dialysis, the recommended initial dose is 60 mg once daily. The 180 mg tablet may not be suitable; consult a physician.
How to Take
Take Dinafex 180 mg tablet orally, with water. It can be taken with or without food. Avoid taking it with fruit juices (e.g., grapefruit, orange, apple juice) as they may reduce the drug's effectiveness.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a natural substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. By blocking H1 receptors, it prevents histamine from binding and reduces the allergic response.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1 hour.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged, 80% in feces and 11% in urine.
Half life
Approximately 11-15 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached in approximately 2-3 hours.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized (approximately 5% of the dose).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine hydrochloride or any of the excipients.
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin or Ketoconazole
Concomitant use with erythromycin or ketoconazole has been shown to increase fexofenadine plasma concentrations. However, this increase is generally not associated with increased adverse effects or altered QT interval.
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium
Co-administration with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide can reduce fexofenadine absorption. Separate administration by approximately 2 hours.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth. In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended. Hemodialysis does not effectively remove fexofenadine from the blood.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Fexofenadine is excreted in breast milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
