Description
Overview of the medicine
Easium 10 mg Injection is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe acute pain. It is administered parenterally for rapid onset of action.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose of 10 mg by IM or slow IV injection, followed by 10 mg every 6-8 hours as needed. Maximum daily dose 30 mg.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required; initial dose 5 mg every 8-12 hours. Maximum daily dose 15 mg.
Renal_impairment
Adjust dose based on creatinine clearance; generally reduced to 5 mg every 12 hours. Contraindicated in severe renal failure.
How to Take
For intramuscular (IM) or slow intravenous (IV) administration. IV injection should be administered over at least 15 seconds. Not for intrathecal or epidural use.
Mechanism of Action
Easium inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins mediate inflammation, pain, and fever. By inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, Easium reduces pain and inflammation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 10-30 minutes for pain relief.
Excretion
Excreted mainly in urine (60-70%) and feces (30-40%) as metabolites and unchanged drug.
Half life
Approximately 4-6 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and completely absorbed after intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 30-60 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and hydroxylation.
