Description
Overview of the medicine
Easium 5 mg Tablet is a non-benzodiazepine anxiolytic indicated for the short-term treatment of generalized anxiety disorder and insomnia. It works by enhancing the activity of GABA, a neurotransmitter in the brain, leading to a calming effect.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For anxiety: 5 mg once daily, adjusted up to 10 mg daily if needed. For insomnia: 5 mg at bedtime.
Elderly
Lower initial dose recommended, typically 2.5 mg once daily, due to increased sensitivity and slower metabolism.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose reduction may be necessary. Not recommended for severe impairment.
How to Take
Take orally with water, with or without food. For insomnia, take shortly before bedtime.
Mechanism of Action
Easium selectively binds to GABA-A receptors, potentiating the inhibitory effects of GABA, primarily at α1, α2, and α3 subunits. This leads to anxiolytic, sedative, hypnotic, and muscle relaxant properties.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as inactive metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 6-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via CYP450 enzymes.
