Description
Overview of the medicine
Emodol 30 mg Injection is a potent analgesic and antipyretic medication used for rapid relief of moderate to severe pain and fever. It acts centrally to modulate pain perception without significant opioid receptor binding. It is suitable for intravenous or intramuscular administration.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
30 mg every 4-6 hours as needed, maximum 120 mg/day. Administer slowly over 2-3 minutes intravenously or deep intramuscularly.
Elderly
A reduced dose of 15-30 mg every 6-8 hours may be considered, with careful monitoring.
Renal_impairment
For moderate renal impairment (CrCl 30-50 mL/min), reduce dose by 50%. For severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min), use with caution and further dose reduction.
How to Take
Emodol 30 mg Injection should be administered intravenously (IV) slowly over 2-3 minutes or deeply intramuscularly (IM). Ensure proper aseptic technique. Do not mix with other medications in the same syringe.
Mechanism of Action
Emodol inhibits prostaglandin synthesis primarily in the central nervous system, leading to its analgesic and antipyretic effects. It may also exert its action through modulation of endogenous cannabinoid system or serotonergic pathways, contributing to its non-opioid pain relief.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
15-30 minutes (IV), 30-60 minutes (IM)
Excretion
Excreted mainly through the kidneys as inactive metabolites and a small portion as unchanged drug.
Half life
Approximately 2-3 hours
Absorption
Rapidly and completely absorbed following intravenous and intramuscular administration, with peak plasma concentrations achieved within 15-30 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and sulfation pathways.
