Overview of the medicine
Fexofenadine is a second-generation antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and hives. It works by blocking histamine, a natural substance that the body produces during an allergic reaction.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
120 mg once daily or 60 mg twice daily
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised in patients with impaired renal function.
Renal_impairment
Initial dose of 60 mg once daily is recommended for patients with impaired renal function.
How to Take
Oral. Should be taken with water, preferably before a meal. Do not take with fruit juice.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-blocker. It inhibits histamine release from mast cells and reduces the effects of histamine on H1 receptors, thereby alleviating allergic symptoms.

Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, dizziness, and dry mouth. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and activated charcoal if appropriate.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed after careful risk-benefit assessment. Fexofenadine is excreted into breast milk; caution is advised in nursing mothers.
