Description
Overview of the medicine
Floromox-05 Eye Drop is an ophthalmic antibiotic containing Moxifloxacin, a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone, used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis and other superficial ocular infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) 3 times a day for 7 days, or as directed by physician.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment necessary.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to create a pouch, instill drop, close eye gently, and apply pressure to the inner corner of the eye for 1-2 minutes to prevent drainage.
Mechanism of Action
Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes involved in DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid onset of action, typically within hours for antibacterial effect.
Excretion
Primarily via urine and feces after systemic administration. Minimal excretion after topical ocular use.
Half life
Not well defined for topical ophthalmic use due to minimal systemic absorption. Systemic half-life is approximately 11-15 hours.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical ocular administration. Peak plasma concentrations are typically below the limits of detection.
Metabolism
Not extensively metabolized in the eye. Systemically, it undergoes Phase II conjugation and minimal oxidation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to moxifloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the medication.
Drug Interactions
Systemic interactions are unlikely due to minimal ocular absorption.
However, caution advised if other topical ophthalmic medications are used; administer at least 5 minutes apart.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Ocular overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to limited absorption. Flush eye with lukewarm water if excess is applied.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution is advised during lactation as moxifloxacin is excreted in human milk after systemic administration; however, systemic exposure from ophthalmic use is negligible.
