Floromox 400 mg Tablet contains Moxifloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
400 mg once daily for 5-21 days depending on the infection type and severity.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with mild to severe renal impairment (including those on dialysis).
How to Take
Take orally, once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.

Onset
Within hours of administration, therapeutic concentrations are achieved.
Excretion
Excreted in feces and urine, both as unchanged drug and metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 12 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; absolute bioavailability is approximately 90%. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 0.5 to 4 hours.
Metabolism
Undergoes Phase II biotransformation (glucuronide and sulfate conjugation) in the liver. These metabolites are inactive.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other fluoroquinolones
- •Patients with a history of tendinitis or tendon rupture associated with quinolone use
- •Known prolongation of the QT interval
- •Uncorrected hypokalemia
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May enhance anticoagulant effects; monitor INR.
Antacids, Sucralfate, Didanosine, Multi-vitamins (containing cations)
Can reduce absorption of Moxifloxacin; administer Moxifloxacin several hours before or after these agents.
Drugs that prolong QT interval (e.g., Class IA and Class III antiarrhythmics, tricyclic antidepressants, macrolides, antipsychotics)
Increased risk of severe arrhythmia.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, institute symptomatic and supportive measures. ECG monitoring is recommended due to the potential for QT interval prolongation.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Excreted in breast milk; a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
