Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment

How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Wash hands before and after application. Pull down the lower eyelid, apply a small amount into the conjunctival sac. Do not touch the tip of the tube to the eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
Mechanism of Action
Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid onset of action with symptomatic relief typically within hours.
Excretion
Primarily through feces and urine systemically. Ocular excretion is not significant.
Half life
Systemic half-life is approximately 11-15 hours, but ocular retention is prolonged due to ointment formulation.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption following topical ocular administration.
Metabolism
Minimal ocular metabolism. Systemically, it is metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to moxifloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the ointment.
Drug Interactions
Other Ophthalmic Medications
If using other topical ophthalmic medications, administer them at least 5 minutes apart.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C) and protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Ophthalmic overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to limited absorption. If excess is applied, the eye may be flushed with lukewarm water.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Exercise caution when administered to a nursing woman.
