Description
Overview of the medicine
Hairgrow (Minoxidil) is a topical solution used to treat androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern baldness) by stimulating hair regrowth. It is applied directly to the scalp.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply 1 mL of 5% solution to the affected area of the scalp twice daily.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly patients. Use as adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required for topical use.
How to Take
Ensure scalp is dry. Apply 1 mL solution to the affected area using the applicator, gently rub it in. Wash hands thoroughly after application. Do not apply to other body parts. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, and mouth.
Mechanism of Action
Minoxidil is believed to stimulate hair growth by widening blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the hair follicles, thereby prolonging the anagen (growth) phase of hair follicles and increasing their size. It may also directly stimulate hair follicle cells.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Hair regrowth typically begins after 2-4 months of consistent use.
Excretion
Mainly excreted by the kidneys, primarily as glucuronide conjugates.
Half life
Systemic half-life is approximately 4.2 hours.
Absorption
Approximately 1.4-1.7% of topically applied Minoxidil is absorbed systemically. Absorption is increased with damaged skin.
Metabolism
Absorbed Minoxidil is primarily metabolized by hepatic glucuronidation.
