Description
Overview of the medicine
Imigra 10 mg Capsule is used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks, with or without aura. It helps to relieve migraine symptoms like headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual recommended dose is 10 mg taken as a single dose at the onset of a migraine headache. If symptoms return, a second dose may be taken after 2 hours. Maximum 20 mg in 24 hours.
Elderly
Use with caution. Dosage adjustments may be considered due to potential age-related decline in renal or hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for mild to moderate renal impairment, but use with caution. Not recommended for severe impairment.
How to Take
Take the capsule whole with water. It can be taken with or without food. Do not chew or crush the capsule.
Mechanism of Action
Imigra acts as a selective agonist for serotonin 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D receptors. It causes vasoconstriction of cranial blood vessels, inhibits pro-inflammatory neuropeptide release, and inhibits pain signal transmission in the trigeminal pathway, leading to migraine relief.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action typically within 30 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted mainly via urine (both unchanged drug and metabolites).
Half life
Approximately 2 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration; peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized by monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A).
