Overview of the medicine
Joytrip (Cinnarizine) is an antihistamine used to treat various conditions like motion sickness, vertigo, Ménière's disease, and other forms of nausea and dizziness. It also has vasodilating properties.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Motion sickness: 25 mg 2 hours before travel, then 15 mg every 8 hours during travel. Vertigo/Dizziness: 25 mg three times daily.
Elderly
Start with lower doses and adjust based on response and tolerability.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required, but use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably after meals to reduce gastrointestinal upset.
Mechanism of Action
Cinnarizine primarily acts as an H1 receptor antagonist, blocking histamine receptors in the vestibular system, which helps reduce dizziness and nausea. It also inhibits calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to vasodilation and improved blood flow, particularly in the cerebral circulation.
