Description
Overview of the medicine
Libott-25 Injection contains Libotol Hydrochloride, a serotonin receptor modulator indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder in adults.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For MDD and GAD: 25 mg intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV) once daily. Dosage may be adjusted based on clinical response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 50 mg daily.
Elderly
Initiate with a lower dose of 12.5 mg once daily, with gradual titration based on response and tolerability due to increased sensitivity and potential for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
Mild to moderate impairment: No initial dose adjustment. Severe impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73m²): Consider 50% dose reduction. Administer with caution.
How to Take
Libott-25 Injection should be administered by a healthcare professional, either as an intramuscular (IM) injection into a large muscle or as an intravenous (IV) infusion diluted in a suitable solution.
Mechanism of Action
Libotol Hydrochloride selectively modulates specific serotonin receptors in the central nervous system, leading to an antidepressant and anxiolytic effect. It helps restore the balance of natural substances in the brain that affect mood.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical effects may be noticeable within 30-60 minutes for some acute symptoms, but full antidepressant effects take 2-4 weeks.
Excretion
Mainly excreted renally as metabolites, with a small portion excreted unchanged.
Half life
Approximately 10-15 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) administration.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Libotol Hydrochloride or any excipients.
- •Concomitant use with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing MAOI therapy.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Risk of serious, sometimes fatal, reactions including serotonin syndrome.
SSRIs/SNRIs
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
Drugs metabolized by CYP2D6
Potential for increased plasma levels of co-administered drugs.
CNS Depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines)
Enhanced sedative effects and impaired psychomotor function.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include severe drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, tremor, tachycardia, and seizures. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including maintaining an open airway, cardiac monitoring, and administration of activated charcoal if indicated.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is unknown whether Libotol Hydrochloride is excreted in human milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
