Description
Overview of the medicine
Linbid 100 mg Suspension contains Lincomycin, a lincosamide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, particularly in patients allergic to penicillin, and effective against certain Gram-positive bacteria and anaerobes.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 500 mg every 6-8 hours. For severe infections, up to 1 gram every 8-12 hours.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment needed based on age alone; monitor renal/hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment required. For severe impairment (creatinine clearance < 10 ml/min), administer 25-30% of the usual dose.
How to Take
Take Linbid suspension orally with a full glass of water, at least 1-2 hours before or after meals to ensure optimal absorption. Shake well before use.
Mechanism of Action
Lincomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby preventing peptide bond formation and subsequent protein chain elongation. It is primarily bacteriostatic.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical effects may be observed within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted through both urine (approximately 10-25% as unchanged drug) and bile/feces (major route).
Half life
Plasma half-life ranges from 4.4 to 6.4 hours in adults with normal renal function.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, but food significantly decreases the rate and extent of absorption. Peak plasma concentrations reached within 2-4 hours after oral administration.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to lincomycin, clindamycin, or any component of the formulation.
- •Patients with a history of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, or antibiotic-associated colitis.
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin
Antagonistic effect; avoid concomitant use.
Kaolin-Pectin
Decreases the oral absorption of lincomycin; administer lincomycin at least 2 hours before kaolin-pectin.
Neuromuscular Blockers
May enhance the neuromuscular blocking effects, leading to respiratory depression.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, supportive and symptomatic treatment should be initiated. There is no specific antidote for lincomycin. Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective in removing lincomycin from the blood.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have not shown harm to the fetus, but adequate studies in pregnant women are lacking. Use only if clearly needed. Lincomycin is excreted in breast milk; caution advised when administered to a nursing woman.
