Description
Overview of the medicine
Linbid 600 mg Tablet is a lincosamide antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, particularly those caused by susceptible Gram-positive aerobic microorganisms and anaerobic bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 600 mg every 8 hours, or 600 mg every 12 hours for less severe infections. Administer with a full glass of water, preferably on an empty stomach.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised in patients with compromised renal or hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (CrCl < 10 mL/min), reduce dose to 25-30% of the usual dose. Monitor drug levels if possible.
How to Take
Take Linbid 600 mg Tablet with a full glass of water, preferably on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) to ensure optimal absorption. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Lincomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing peptide bond formation and subsequent bacterial growth.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes after oral administration.
Excretion
Excreted in urine (approx. 10-25% as active drug) and bile/feces (major route).
Half life
Approximately 4-6 hours in adults with normal renal and hepatic function.
Absorption
Rapidly but incompletely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration, with peak plasma concentrations occurring in 2-4 hours. Food can decrease the rate and extent of absorption.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to lincomycin, clindamycin, or any component of the formulation
- •Infants younger than 1 month of age
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin
Antagonistic effect observed with macrolide antibiotics like erythromycin, potentially reducing efficacy.
Kaolin-pectin antidiarrheals
May significantly reduce oral absorption of lincomycin if administered concomitantly.
Neuromuscular Blocking Agents
May enhance the effect of neuromuscular blocking agents, leading to increased respiratory depression.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. Gastric lavage and other measures to remove unabsorbed drug may be considered. Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective in removing lincomycin from the blood.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Lincomycin is excreted in breast milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother. Consult your doctor before use.
