Description
Overview of the medicine
Linlid 400 mg Tablet is a novel oral antidiabetic medication indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps to lower blood glucose levels through a unique mechanism of action, improving glycemic control in adult patients.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Recommended starting dose is 400 mg once daily, taken with or without food.
Elderly
No dose adjustment required based solely on age, but monitor renal function.
Renal_impairment
Mild to moderate renal impairment: No dose adjustment. Severe renal impairment: Consider dose reduction to 200 mg once daily.
How to Take
Oral administration. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Can be taken with or without food. Take at the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Linlid acts by selectively inhibiting a newly identified enzyme involved in hepatic glucose production and peripheral glucose reuptake, leading to reduced fasting and postprandial glucose levels without stimulating insulin secretion, thereby minimizing hypoglycemia risk.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Glycemic control benefits observed within 1 week of initiation.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via bile/feces (approx. 70%) and urine (approx. 30%).
Half life
Approximately 12-18 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentration reached within 2-4 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP3A4).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Linlid or any component of the formulation.
- •Patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
- •Diabetic ketoacidosis.
Drug Interactions
Strong CYP3A4 Inducers (e.g., Rifampicin)
May reduce Linlid plasma concentrations, monitor glycemic control.
Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors (e.g., Ketoconazole)
May increase Linlid plasma concentrations, monitor for increased side effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, initiate symptomatic and supportive measures. No specific antidote is known. Hemodialysis is unlikely to be effective due to high protein binding.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during lactation; consider discontinuing nursing or the drug.
