Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults

Elderly

How to Take
Shake well before use. Administer orally once daily with or without food. Use an oral syringe or measuring spoon for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thus preventing bacterial growth.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, any macrolide or ketolide antibiotic, or any component of the formulation.
- History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with prior azithromycin use.
Drug Interactions
Digoxin
Increased digoxin serum levels.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect; monitor INR.
Nelfinavir
Increased azithromycin serum concentrations.
Antacids (containing aluminum or magnesium)
Decreased peak serum concentrations of azithromycin; take azithromycin at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed.
Overdose
Symptoms may include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and reversible hearing loss. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and supportive measures as necessary.

Pregnancy Category B. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
