Overview of the medicine
Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the relief of mild to moderate pain, fever, and inflammation. It works by blocking the body's production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For mild to moderate pain, 250-500 mg twice daily. For rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, 250-500 mg twice daily.
Elderly
Lower doses recommended, monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
Reduced dosage necessary, monitor renal function.
How to Take
Orally, preferably with food or milk to reduce gastrointestinal upset.
Mechanism of Action
Naproxen inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby blocking the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain. Management includes gastric emptying and symptomatic treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid during the last trimester of pregnancy. Use with caution during early pregnancy and lactation, consult doctor.
