Overview of the medicine
NexCap (Esomeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is used to treat conditions like GERD and ulcers.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
20-40 mg once daily, depending on the condition.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, but monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required.
How to Take
Take orally, at least one hour before a meal. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole selectively inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells, thereby blocking the final step of acid secretion.

Excretion
Primarily via urine and feces.
Half life
Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, bioavailability increases with repeated dosing.

Storage

Overdose
Limited experience with overdose. Symptoms may include drowsiness, tachycardia, nausea. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.

Pregnancy Category C. Use only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk, caution advised during lactation.
