Description
Overview of the medicine
Omegut 40 mg Injection contains Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, used to reduce stomach acid production. It is prescribed for severe acid-related conditions, especially when oral administration is not possible.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 40 mg once daily by intravenous infusion. In severe cases, 40 mg twice daily. Infusion duration: 20-30 minutes.
Elderly
No dose adjustment typically required unless severe hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment

How to Take
Reconstitute the lyophilized powder with 100 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride or 5% dextrose solution. Administer as an intravenous infusion over 20-30 minutes.
Mechanism of Action
Omeprazole works by irreversibly binding to and inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase proton pump in gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Acid suppression begins within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine (approximately 80%) and in feces (approximately 20%).
Half life
Approximately 0.5-1 hour, but duration of acid suppression is up to 72 hours.
Absorption
Rapid and complete absorption after intravenous administration, 100% bioavailability.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4.
