Description
Overview of the medicine
Acebrophylline is a xanthine derivative with both bronchodilator and mucoregulating properties. It is used in the treatment of various respiratory disorders, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma, to relieve bronchospasm and clear mucus.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 tablet (200 mg) twice daily.
Elderly
Similar to adult dose, but with caution.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment may be required.
How to Take
Administer orally with or without food. It is generally recommended to take it after meals to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort.
Mechanism of Action
Acebrophylline exerts bronchodilating action by inhibiting phosphodiesterase, leading to increased cAMP levels and relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles. Its mucolytic action is attributed to the activation of serous glands and reduction of mucus viscosity.

Contraindications

Phenytoin
May decrease acebrophylline levels.

Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture.
Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, restlessness, tremors, seizures, and cardiac arrhythmias. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and activated charcoal.
