Romycin (Azithromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For most infections, 500 mg once daily for 3 days, or 500 mg on day 1 followed by 250 mg once daily for 4 days.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly patients, but caution for cardiac comorbidities.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, generally once daily. For optimal absorption, it is usually advised to take 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, though some formulations can be taken with food.
Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby blocking the translocation of peptides.
