Overview of the medicine
Supraxim is a broad-spectrum antibiotic containing Cefixime, used to treat various bacterial infections like urinary tract infections, ear infections, throat infections, and bronchitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults: 200 mg once daily or 400 mg once daily, or 200 mg every 12 hours depending on the severity of infection.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required for elderly patients unless there is severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
For creatinine clearance 21-60 mL/min, dose 300 mg daily. For creatinine clearance <20 mL/min, dose 200 mg daily.
How to Take
Supraxim can be taken with or without food. To ensure full absorption, it is generally advised to take it at consistent times each day.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of the bacteria.

Peak plasma concentrations are achieved 2-6 hours post-administration.

Primarily excreted via the kidneys (glomerular filtration and tubular secretion).

Average half-life is 3-4 hours.

In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Management is primarily symptomatic and supportive; hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is not effective.

Pregnancy Category B. Use with caution during lactation; small amounts are excreted in breast milk.
