Description
Overview of the medicine
Todol-05 eye drop contains Ketorolac Tromethamine, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), used to relieve eye pain, itching, and inflammation following certain eye surgeries (like cataract surgery) or for seasonal allergic conjunctivitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For seasonal allergic conjunctivitis: 1 drop into the affected eye(s) four times a day. For postoperative inflammation: 1 drop into the affected eye(s) four times a day for up to two weeks.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, use adult dose.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment for topical ophthalmic use.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a pouch. Squeeze a single drop into the pouch. Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface. Close the eye gently for a few moments.
Mechanism of Action
Ketorolac inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins and other inflammatory mediators responsible for pain and inflammation in the eye.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain relief within 1-2 hours, anti-inflammatory effects may take longer.
Excretion
Mainly renal if systemically absorbed.
Half life
Systemic half-life is approximately 5-6 hours, but local ophthalmic kinetics differ.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical ocular administration. Detected in aqueous humor and plasma at low concentrations.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic (glucuronidation) if systemically absorbed, but local metabolism in the eye is limited.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to ketorolac tromethamine or any component of the formulation
- •Patients with known hypersensitivity to aspirin or other NSAIDs (may experience asthma, urticaria, or acute rhinitis)
Drug Interactions
Other Ophthalmic NSAIDs
Concurrent use not recommended as it may increase the potential for adverse effects.
Topical Corticosteroids
May increase the potential for corneal healing problems.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C), protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose with ophthalmic ketorolac is unlikely due to limited systemic absorption. If accidentally ingested, symptomatic and supportive measures should be taken.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution in breastfeeding mothers as small amounts may be excreted in breast milk.
