Not typical for 100 mg suspension. For Cefixime tablets, 200-400 mg daily as a single dose or in two divided doses.
Children
8 mg/kg/day in a single dose or two divided doses for children aged 6 months to 12 years. (100 mg/5 ml suspension is often 5 ml for 10-15 kg child)

How to Take
Administer orally with or without food. Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure uniform dosing. Use the provided measuring device for accurate dosage.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and bacterial death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
1-2 hours
Excretion
Primarily via kidney (about 50-60% unchanged in urine); some biliary excretion.
Half life
3-4 hours
Absorption
Approximately 40-50% absorbed orally. Food may delay but not significantly alter absorption.
Metabolism
Not extensively metabolized; primarily excreted unchanged.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Cefixime or other cephalosporin antibiotics.
- History of hypersensitivity to penicillins (due to potential for cross-reactivity).
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May increase anticoagulant effect (monitor INR).
Carbamazepine
May increase carbamazepine levels.
Oral Contraceptives
May reduce efficacy (advise additional contraception).
Storage
Store the dry powder below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution, store the suspension in a refrigerator (2-8°C) and discard after 7-14 days as per product specific guidelines. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Gastric lavage, symptomatic and supportive treatment. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is not effective in removing Cefixime from the body.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B: Animal studies show no risk, but human studies are limited. Use only if clearly needed. Lactation: Excreted in small amounts in breast milk; generally considered safe, but monitor infant for diarrhea or thrush.
