Truso 400 mg Capsule contains Secnidazole, an antiprotozoal agent used to treat various infections caused by susceptible protozoa and anaerobic bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For amoebiasis (intestinal): 2 gm as a single dose. For giardiasis: 2 gm as a single dose. For trichomoniasis: 2 gm as a single dose. For bacterial vaginosis: 2 gm as a single dose.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, but caution advised due to potential age-related organ impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment may be necessary in severe renal impairment. Consult physician.
How to Take
Administer orally, preferably with food to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the capsule whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Secnidazole is a nitroimidazole derivative that works by entering the microbial cell, where it is reduced to active metabolites. These metabolites damage microbial DNA, leading to inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis and cell death.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to secnidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives
- •First trimester of pregnancy (relative contraindication)
- •Blood dyscrasias
Drug Interactions
Alcohol
Disulfiram-like reaction (nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, headache) may occur. Avoid alcohol during and for at least 72 hours after treatment.
Warfarin
May enhance anticoagulant effect, monitor INR.
Storage
Store below 30°C, in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include gastrointestinal upset, ataxia, and neurological symptoms. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use with caution, especially during the first trimester. Consult physician. Avoid during lactation as secnidazole is excreted into breast milk.
