Description
Overview of the medicine
Tydin 125 mg Suspension is an antibiotic medication used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It contains Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin, which works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Not typically used for adults in this suspension form. Adult dosage for Cefixime is generally 200-400 mg daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment needed for elderly with normal renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 60 mL/min).
How to Take
Administer orally, with or without food. Shake the suspension well before each use. Use a measuring spoon or cup provided with the medication to ensure accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime is a bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, which prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan units, ultimately leading to cell lysis and bacterial death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Peak plasma concentrations are achieved 2-6 hours after administration.
Excretion
Primarily excreted by the kidneys (approximately 50% unchanged) and also via biliary/fecal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 3-4 hours.
Absorption
Approximately 40-50% orally absorbed. Food slightly delays absorption but does not significantly affect the extent.
Metabolism
Not significantly metabolized; about 50% of the absorbed dose is excreted unchanged.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cefixime or any other cephalosporin antibiotics.
- History of severe hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid
May increase cefixime plasma concentrations by inhibiting renal excretion.
Carbamazepine
May increase carbamazepine plasma concentrations.
Warfarin and other anticoagulants
May increase prothrombin time (INR) and risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store the dry powder below 30°C, away from moisture and light. After reconstitution, store in a refrigerator (2-8°C) and do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, gastric lavage may be indicated. Cefixime is not removed in significant quantities from the circulation by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Treatment should be symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have not shown harm to the fetus. However, there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Cefixime is excreted in small amounts into breast milk; use with caution in breastfeeding mothers.

Lab Monitoring
- Monitor renal function (creatinine clearance) in patients with pre-existing renal impairment or during prolonged high-dose therapy.
- Monitor blood counts in patients receiving prolonged treatment.
- Monitor INR in patients co-administered with anticoagulants.
Doctor Notes
- Emphasize the importance of completing the full prescribed course of Tydin to optimize treatment outcomes and minimize the risk of resistance.
- Advise parents/caregivers on proper reconstitution and storage of the suspension.
- Counsel on potential side effects, especially diarrhea, and when to seek medical attention.
Patient Guidelines
- Complete the full course of antibiotics, even if symptoms improve, to prevent recurrence and development of antibiotic resistance.
- Shake the suspension well before each use and use the provided measuring device for accurate dosing.
- Store reconstituted suspension in the refrigerator and discard any unused portion after the recommended period (usually 7-14 days).
Missed Dose Advice
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Driving Precautions
Cefixime generally has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive or use machines. However, if side effects like dizziness occur, patients should avoid driving or operating machinery.
Lifestyle Advice
- Maintain good hydration by drinking plenty of fluids.
- Avoid self-medication with antibiotics; only use as prescribed by a doctor.
