Verizith 500 mg Tablet contains Verizithromycin, a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg once daily for 3 days, or 500 mg once on day 1 followed by 250 mg once daily for 4 days.
Elderly
No dose adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment needed for mild to moderate renal impairment; caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Verizith tablets should be swallowed whole with water, with or without food. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Verizithromycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thus preventing peptide translocation.

Onset
Within 2-3 hours of administration.
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged in bile; minor renal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 days.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, bioavailability can be affected by food.

Primarily metabolized in the liver, but to a limited extent.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to verizithromycin or any macrolide antibiotic
- •History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with prior verizithromycin use
- •Severe hepatic impairment
- •History of QT prolongation
Drug Interactions
Digoxin
Increased digoxin levels, monitor levels.
Statins
Increased risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis with certain statins (e.g., simvastatin).
Antacids
May decrease peak plasma concentrations of verizithromycin. Administer verizithromycin at least 1-2 hours before or 4-6 hours after antacids.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect, monitor INR.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and reversible hearing loss. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and general supportive measures.

Pregnancy Category B. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Exercise caution when administered to a nursing mother. Consult your doctor.
