Overview of the medicine
Vinzam (Vinpocetine) is a medication used to improve cerebral blood flow and metabolic functions in the brain. It is indicated for various memory and cognitive impairments.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 5-10 mg orally, three times daily, preferably after meals. Dosage may be adjusted based on clinical response.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment is usually required in patients with renal impairment, but caution is advised in severe cases.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably after meals, with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Vinpocetine selectively increases cerebral blood flow, enhances glucose and oxygen utilization in brain cells, and has neuroprotective effects by inhibiting phosphodiesterase type 1 (PDE1). It also improves red blood cell deformability and reduces blood viscosity.

Side Effects

Drug Interactions
Antihypertensives
May potentiate the hypotensive effects.

Antiplatelets (e.g., Aspirin, Clopidogrel)
May enhance the antiplatelet effect, increasing bleeding risk.
Storage

Overdose
In case of an overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. There is no specific antidote for Vinpocetine overdose.
