Description
Overview of the medicine
Visral 5 mg Injection contains Hyoscine Butylbromide, an antispasmodic agent used to relieve painful cramps and spasms of the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal, biliary, and genitourinary tracts.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 20 mg intramuscularly or intravenously, repeated every 30 minutes if necessary, but not to exceed 100 mg per day.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but caution should be exercised in patients with underlying conditions.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required, but caution is advised due to renal excretion.
How to Take
Administered by healthcare professionals via intramuscular (IM) or slow intravenous (IV) injection.
Mechanism of Action
Hyoscine Butylbromide is an anticholinergic agent that specifically acts as a muscarinic receptor antagonist. It blocks the action of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors in the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal, biliary, and genitourinary tracts, leading to relaxation of these muscles and relief of spasms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid, within minutes after IV administration.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via renal and biliary routes, largely as unchanged drug and metabolites.
Half life
Short plasma half-life, typically a few hours.
Absorption
Poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; primarily administered parenterally for systemic effect. After IV administration, it is rapidly distributed.
Metabolism
Partially metabolized in the liver.
