Description
Overview of the medicine
Vistarin-2000 Anti-Xa Injection is an anticoagulant medication used to prevent and treat blood clots (thrombosis). It contains a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) that acts by inhibiting Factor Xa.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For DVT prophylaxis: 2000 anti-Xa IU (20 mg) subcutaneously once daily. Dosage may vary based on specific indications and patient weight.
Elderly
No general dose reduction is required in the elderly unless renal function is impaired. Monitor renal function carefully.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment is necessary in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min). Consult physician for specific guidelines.
How to Take
Administer by subcutaneous injection into the anterolateral or posterolateral abdominal wall, or outer thigh. Do not inject intramuscularly. Alternate injection sites.
Mechanism of Action
It potentiates the activity of antithrombin III, leading to the inactivation of Factor Xa. This prevents the formation and growth of blood clots.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 3-5 hours (peak anti-Xa activity after SC administration).
Excretion
Mainly renal, with unchanged drug and metabolites.
Half life
Anti-Xa half-life is approximately 4-5 hours after a single subcutaneous dose.
Absorption
High bioavailability (approx. 100%) after subcutaneous administration. Peak anti-Xa activity achieved in 3-5 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic depolymerization.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Active major bleeding or conditions with high risk of uncontrolled hemorrhage.
- •History of Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT).
- •Hypersensitivity to the active substance, heparin, or any excipient.
Drug Interactions
Oral Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Increased risk of bleeding; careful monitoring required during co-administration.
NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)
Increased risk of bleeding.
Antiplatelet Agents (e.g., Aspirin, Clopidogrel)
Increased risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store below 25°C. Do not freeze. Protect from light.
Overdose
The anticoagulant effects can be largely neutralized by the intravenous administration of protamine sulfate. Dosage of protamine depends on the anti-Xa activity and time since Vistarin-2000 administration.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. LMWHs generally do not cross the placenta. Caution is advised during lactation as it is unknown if it is excreted in human milk.
