Description
Overview of the medicine
Xanuric 120 mg Tablet contains Flobicoxib, a selective COX-2 inhibitor, used for the symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation in conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and acute pain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Osteoarthritis: 60 mg once daily. Rheumatoid Arthritis: 90 mg once daily. Acute pain: 120 mg once daily for a maximum of 8 days. Acute gouty arthritis: 120 mg once daily for maximum 8 days.

Renal_impairment
Mild to moderate renal impairment: No dose adjustment needed. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min): Not recommended.
How to Take
Take orally, once daily. Can be taken with or without food. For acute pain, use for the shortest duration necessary.
Mechanism of Action
Flobicoxib selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme, which is responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins, inflammatory mediators. By inhibiting COX-2, it reduces pain, inflammation, and fever.

Onset of action typically occurs within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via the urine (approximately 70%) and feces (approximately 30%), mainly as metabolites.
Half life
Elimination half-life is approximately 10-15 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, achieving peak plasma concentrations within 1-2 hours. Bioavailability is approximately 80-90%.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver, mainly via cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes, particularly CYP3A4 and CYP2C9.
