Description
Overview of the medicine
Xofast 120 mg Tablet contains Fexofenadine Hydrochloride, a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose/palate/throat, and itchy, watery eyes associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis or chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis: 120 mg once daily or 60 mg twice daily. For Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria: 180 mg once daily.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised in elderly patients with impaired renal or hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
For adults with impaired renal function (creatinine clearance ≤ 10 mL/min), including those on hemodialysis, the recommended starting dose is 60 mg once daily for both SAR and CIU.
How to Take
Take orally with water, with or without food. Do not take with fruit juice.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It prevents histamine from binding to H1 receptors, thereby inhibiting the effects of histamine and reducing allergic symptoms.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any excipients of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin
May increase plasma concentrations of fexofenadine.
Ketoconazole
May increase plasma concentrations of fexofenadine.
Antacids (containing aluminum and magnesium)
May decrease the absorption of fexofenadine; administer at least 2 hours apart.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and activated charcoal if appropriate.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Fexofenadine is excreted in breast milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
